Golden Child Launches New Food System for Dogs, Elevates Dining for Dogs with Science-Backed Nutrition

Today, Golden Child is emerging from stealth to introduce a new class of fresh dog food. Backed by Atomic, A*, and Redpoint Ventures, Golden Child raised $37M to develop a new food system for dogs that includes nutrient-rich fresh food that provides functional benefits, and built a proprietary supply chain that ensures the same high standards as human food delivery.

Golden Child was co-founded in 2025 by Quentin Lacornerie, former Hims & Hers VP of Product Management, and Hims & Hers Co-Founder, Jack Abraham, after Abraham’s dog fell ill due to nutritional gaps while eating one of the most expensive “premium” fresh foods on the market. The experience prompted the team to take a deeper look at the category and found limited innovation in the last 15 years, yet a growing desire from pet parents for food options that prioritize their pet’s health and wellness.

To create a new and groundbreaking healthy option for dogs, Golden Child assembled a founding team that includes a board-certified veterinary nutritionist – one of 80 in the country – as well as a nutrition scientist, a classically trained chef, and a fresh food supply chain expert. Together, they have years of experience from companies such as The Farmer’s Dog, HelloFresh, Royal Canin, Nestlé Purina and Pepperidge Farm, and they focused on elevating pet nutrition by integrating rigorous formulation standards, culinary creativity, and operational excellence.

“We created Golden Child because fresh alone isn’t enough,” said Quentin Lacornerie, Golden Child Co-Founder. “Too much of the category has focused on refrigeration as the primary innovation. Our founding team, which includes veterinary nutrition and supply chain experts, has taken a thoughtful approach from the onset to making dog food that is of top quality, focused on digestibility, nutrition, and taste. Pets deserve meals that are crafted with the same care, intention, and standards we hope for ourselves, and that’s what we’re delivering with Golden Child.”

Golden Child enters a rapidly expanding category: the U.S. fresh pet food market is expected to grow by $3.2 billion by 2029. With 68 million U.S. households owning a dog, and Gen Z and millennials now accounting for over half of pet parents, demand for higher-quality, thoughtfully formulated options continues to accelerate.

A New Ritual in Fresh Feeding

Golden Child’s recipe development process integrates veterinary nutrition science, culinary R&D, and controlled production standards to ensure complete, balanced formulations tailored to dogs’ biological needs. Additionally, all recipes are produced in U.S.-based facilities operating under rigorous food safety and quality standards.

“This is the most scientifically comprehensive fresh food on the market,” said Dr. Blaire Aldridge, Vice President of Research & Development. “Golden Child has prioritized nutrition not just for freshness but to create a meal that is packed with ultimate goodness for the pet through ‘nutraceuticals and whole food.’”

Golden Child is committed to making every bowl with care and nutrition to support lifelong health with its chef-crafted and vet nutritionist-developed recipes that feature “Mains” and “Drizzles,” which enhance palatability and support a healthy gut, joint health, cellular vitality, and a shiny coat.

Mains are the protein base and available in different flavors, formulated specifically for a dog’s activity and energy levels. Functional ingredient blends for Mains include prebiotic fiber for gut health, post-biotics, Omega-3 and 6 fatty acids for healthy skin and coat, high in antioxidants, and additional supportive nutrients. Meanwhile, Drizzles are functional toppers that include a natural source of collagen and biotin, eggshell membrane, and vitamins for a nutrient-rich culinary experience. Drizzles are flavor-forward and can be added to Golden Child’s Mains or to a dog’s existing food selection.

“A meal is an expression of love,” said Chef Erin Acevedo, VP of Culinary. “We approached Drizzles the way we would a finishing sauce in a restaurant kitchen: layered, intentional, and transformative. They’re not just an add-on; they complete the dish.”

Golden Child’s initial flavor offerings include:

  • Mains (starting at ~$3 per day)

    • Chicken and Garden Vegetables

    • Chicken and Butternut Squash

    • Beef and Garden Vegetables

    • Beef and Zucchini

  • Drizzles (starting at $19.95 per container)

    • Golden Braised Beef

    • Golden Roast Chicken

    • Golden Spoon Peanut Butter

Across at-home user trials, owners consistently praised the food’s nutritional components and whole-food texture, with several noting it compared favorably to leading fresh food brands. Key highlights include:

“I had [previously] tried multiple commercial diets as well as a variety of probiotics, with little to no improvement. After transitioning them [Dobermans] to Golden Child, all three dogs showed a dramatic improvement. Within just four days, each of them had returned to normal, well-formed stools… It strongly suggested that the formulation of your food addressed underlying digestive sensitivities that other diets had not.”

“This food 1000% not only seemed fresher, it is fresher than [leading fresh food brand] – It’s not completely blended into a soft mushy content. It’s fresh, whole food with really good consistency.”

“Bella was on [leading fresh food brand] previously and she 100% enjoyed Golden Child more-as did we for her, it looks and smells fresh! Also the PB sauce was an added bonus, and knowing there is extra nutritional value in the sauce is amazing.”
